When is a MOT required?
A MOT is required by law on vehicles aged 3 and over which is inspected on a 12-month basis by an authorised person approved by DVSA. This is for the purpose of ensuring your car or van is roadworthy and meets the minimum safety standards and levels of exhaust emissions.
How long does a MOT test take?
A MOT test can take approximately 1 hour to complete however, you can relax in our comfortable and open reception area, with free Wi-Fi, beverages and phone charging points available.
What do you need to take to a MOT Test?
Bring your vehicle into your local Express Fit Autocentre, it’s as simple as that! Our designated approved inspector will retrieve your existing MOT history from the DVSA system. A date will be confirmed for the new MOT certificate within the next 12 months of the due date.
What should you do if your vehicle fails a MOT?
If your vehicle does not meet the minimum standards enforced by the DVSA, it will result in a failed MOT test. Your car or van must be repaired within 10 days before a MOT pass certificate is issued. After the 10 day period, you will be charged a reset fee on incomplete repairs. Until a MOT certificate has been certified which is a legal requirement within the UK, you will be unable to validate and renew your road tax. Driving without tax can consequently result in a hefty fine, which is why a MOT certificate is essential to withhold.
Our DVSA approved inspector will issue a report highlighting the areas your vehicle passed or failed and will then specify repairs to resolve any defects outlined within the MOT test.
* Express Fit specialises in auto repairs and vehicle services, however, some autocentres may not be able to rectify repairs identified from the failure of a MOT test. Please contact your local Autocentre for more information.
What to do if you lose your MOT certificate?
Please produce your vehicle V5 document if the original has been lost or damaged, and we will issue you with a replicate MOT certificate for £10.
What to do if your MOT has expired?
Driving without a valid and up to date MOT certificate is illegal and can result in prosecution. With the exception of driving to and from a pre booked MOT, ensure that your local Express Fit Autocentre has your full vehicle and contact details.
